Gallery introduction: Four exceptional Australian typographic Artists explore the tensions between aesthetic and functionality in their group exhibition ‘Divergence’.⁣

Through encountering, studying and documenting details of the built environment and reflecting on the Sign Painter’s role as human intervention in place, the artworks in ‘DIVERGENCE’ retain elements of commercial sign design, inflicted on a new visual landscape described by curiosity and abstraction.⁣

Each Artist has cumulative experience within commercial sign and mural painting realms, and have intentionally come together as a shift from their independent trajectories. A captured moment in time, as they collectively lean away from their commercial training towards a practice of materiality and form over function - challenging notions of permanence and mark making in the public realm.⁣
